Part Number
Foam varieties use a two-digit numbering format: the first two digits represent the density of the foam, and the last two digits reflect its ILD, which indicates how firm it is. A higher number in the final two digits means a firmer foam.
Durability
Foam density is measured in pounds per cubic foot (lbs/cu ft). Higher numbers in the first two digits indicate a heavier foam, resulting in greater durability and cost. However, it's essential to understand that density does not equate to firmness.
Firmness
For foam thicknesses ranging from 4 to 5 inches, the firmness ratings listed below are applicable. Adjust the ILD (the last two digits) according to the thickness: select a lower ILD for thicker cushions and a higher ILD for thinner ones to prevent bottoming out.
